Solaris Car by DTU

DTU students design solar car 'Solaris'

President Pranab Mukherjee flagged off a solar-powered passenger car developed by Delhi Technological University (DTU) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The solar car, named 'Solaris', has been designed and developed by a team of an interdisciplinary group of under-graduate students headed by Dhiraj Mishra of the electronics and communication engineering department of DTU.
Solaris will represent India at the 'Sasol Solar Challenge' to be held in South Africa from September 15-29.

Features of Solaris:-

 1. Speed : 120 km/hr
 2. Distance : till 170 Km without sun.
3. Battery Backup : 5 hr
4. Power : 2 electric motor in wheels
5. zero carbon emission and completely eco-friendly
6. sedan shape with a seating capacity of two and option of adding three more seats

The body is made of special grade matt fibre in order to keep the solar car light in weight and performance oriented.
Flexible modules of mono crystalline solar silicon cells of 21.4 per cent efficiency have been pasted all over the top of the body in order to entrap maximum solar energy. In all, 800 W is generated from the solar modules.
